Flower bulbs, if planted in a bed, need a soil that has good drainage. Bulbs of all seasons need this facility, but a special care has to be given for the spring bulbs. The fragrance is extracted from these flowers to make beauty products like face wash, soaps, perfumes, deodorant etc. they are also used as coloring agents.

Care has to be taken while planting these bulbs. Choose healthy bulbs without any spots on it. Avoid bulbs that are dry and withered, spongy or moldy. They have to be planted in a 2 feet depth with a little loose soil. They have to be watered alternate days because over watering causes the spoilage of these bulbs. If rodents tend to eat your bulbs, you can try sprinkling some red pepper in the planting hole. It takes many weeks to months for the shoot to appear. And takes almost an year or even more than that in some plants for the first flower to appear. But once the flowering starts it continues every season until the plant completes its life cycle.
